crochet show & tell: turtle pillow for little L

Like most of you already know, Little L is my Godson and I like to spoil him rotten. His was the first baby blanket I ever made.
Little L's blanket. Made a year ago.

For Little L's 1st Birthday I decided to make him something special like I did when he was born. Turtles have been in his nursery decor from the beginning since his Dad had 3 as pets. So, I decided to include a turtle and make him something he can use as he gets older.

I made him a pillow and he loved it! He was cuddling up on it as soon as he unwrapped it. So cute!

A cute turtle on the front and on the back I did his name. If anyone is interested, this is called tunisian crochet or afghan crochet. I made 2 big squares, whip stitched them together and then stuffed it with polyfill.

    1. Oh, I see. Do you carry the colors or switch them? I don't knot so I think that part is lost on me.

    2. I actually made the pattern myself. I found a pic online and put it on graph paper. Each stitch is one square on a grid. You can carry the colors as long as there are 2 or less stitches to carry over. With so many spots where there was more than 2 stitches I ended up with long strands to pick up in different places. I don't knot them together. I leave a long tail and weave the ends in after. With a pillow the back isn't seen so I tie the tails together and leave them. Here is a good tutorial to get started. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbupvlYzq_U

  8. That pillow is so adorable!!!! My mother in law keeps trying to convince me to get into knitting. She is working her way toward making a sweater for herself and it is so impressive!! Love those little feet sticking out from the blanket in the first picture :)

    1. Thanks L! I won't touch knitting with a 10 foot pole. It scares me. I will face that fear at some point though. I have to! I love baby feet too! They make me so happy.
